To KU or Not to KU

I recently received an email from a reader who wanted to let me know why they unsubscribed from my list.

The first reason was that my ebooks are not in Kindle Unlimited (KU).

That’s a fair reason. I did pull my ebooks out of KU because Amazon requires all e-books in that program to be exclusive to Amazon. No readers with Nook ereaders would have access via the Barnes and Noble site. No one who prefers Kobo, or those who read with Google Play, or prefer Apple Books for their platform can read them if they're in KU.

Fortunately, for those who are on a budget and looking for a subscription service, Kobo offers a great one. You can sign up for it here:

https://www.kobo.com/en/plus

For only 7.99 US per month, you get access to a plethora of ebooks, or audio books, or both (for 9.99/month). They might be ones you haven’t read yet, since Amazon won't let books in Kobo+ program also be in KU.

And Kobo e-readers are available at WalMart, or direct from Kobo. Best of all, Kobo does not require us to be exclusive to their platform. You get an inexpensive way to read books, and we authors get our books on all the platforms (but not in KU).

If a low cost option is your only option, consider adding a Kobo eReader device, and subscribing to Kobo+. A lot of my author friends have their books in that program, which means you won't find their books in the exclusive limitations of KU.
